73 S Targa: Guess the Winning Bid!

It's time for the weekly "Evaluate-This-Early-S-on-Ebay" thread. Take a look and submit your best guess as to the winning bid (not what you would pay, but what an eBayer will pay!). And don't forget about the $35K early S Targa on eBay a few weeks ago before making your guess! Winner gets a .... well, you get the accolades of fellow Pelicanheads everywhere - that must be worth something.

I'll go $14,500. -- Curt

Nice looking car, but the seats gotta go IMO. I'll take a stab at it and say 10500.00.

my memory is not the best, but I swear I have seen that car/ad on e-bay before. To venture a guess: $11,111.11 later, Max

Big B, your recent 993 purchase has blurred your vision somewhat

It is a rare machine, the '73 Targa. Seats must go, PMO is ok I guess if the "unreliable" MFI is still included. Nasty that it's red and not the original black. My guess is that it's been around a bit, given there is no verification of the mileage.
Still, perhaps a 20k car? Lets wait and see.

While not as photogenic as the silver car that went for big $$$ a few weeks back, this IS, after all, a numbers matching, original, complete (MFI in a box, right?) most desireable year 1973 911S.

I would call this a pretty good #2 condition car. It needs the seats, some other interior work (love the steering wheel though, where can I get one of those?), also the MFI replaced and the webers put in a box, and it is a color change repaint, probably the worst knock on the car, actually.

According to Keith Martin this car should sell between $16K and $21K in just the condition we see it here. My guess is $24,400 though, because.........ITS ON EBAY!!!!!!!

Well, it's bazaar that Californiaclassix has changed their user-name and somehow erased ALL feedback from the last 12 months or so.

As for the steering wheel, I think it's a "Grant", sold at Pepboys, as cheap as they come.

I'll bite- $18,500, and easily worth it if it has no rust and is mechanically sound. A set of original comfort seats in good condition would be cheap, plus Webers & the steering wheel are pretty decent to live with, and period-correct.

Hey Denis, are you serious? I recognized the CalClassux style but figured this guy was copying them. -- Curt

The rest of you guys are probably right, but I thought I was being optimistic at $14,500!! Let's see: needs paint, seats, dash, carpet, door pocket, MFI re-installation, rocker trim, door handles, door panels (to get rid of funky-looking speakers), correct radio, etc......... plus no documentation???? On second thought, can I up my guess to $22,500?

oh yeah, it's him

Nobody could copy them that well. Those ads might as well be copyrighted. The guy is hilarious; I can just imagine him buying these cars off of the owner: "Original MFI in a box?? Carburetors? Color change? True milage unknown? Nobody wants 'em like this, and WTF happened to the original seats?? Guess I could give you $6500.00 for it, but I do have cash!"

For the right price it might be a good car, looks OK, I know that there aren't many real "S"s around, this ass-clown seems to find a lot of 'em.

My (useless) opinion - I reckon about 16-18k too. Numbers matching good. Wrong paint, seats and tired-looking interior bad.

PMO back to MFI swap might break even given value of the PMOs and assuming the MFI needs rebuilding.

And I have definitely seen that steering wheel before on California Classix...

Still working the problem. Also sorting out some financial details from the move/home sale/purchase so the budget is still a bit of a moving target. The goal is to have Planter breaking his checkbook out in the near future

The pictures make it look plain, and I think pictures are the biggest factor in an ebay sale. My guess would be 14-15K.

CaliforniaClassix (a German named Bill living in Santa Barbara who is an estate buyer) and Hollywoodsfinest (a European named Bernard currently living in Los Angeles who may also be an estate buyer) certainly share a lot in common, at least if their prose style is any measure. If that's the case, though, it seems Bernard/Bill has lost his bevy of B-Girl models, which is a shame.

CaliforniaClassix currently has this Beck Spyder for sale.

Actually, there are three [places screen names selling cars on eBay using this format: CaliforniaClassix, Hollywoodsfinest, and Lagunasfinest. They all use the exact same style of photos and text, with only the first using the occasional model shoot. Since CaliforniaClassix does author auction web pages as a sideline (they offer the service on their site), I always figured that the other two simply paid Bill & Co. to create pages for them occasionally. Since the models are extra, I suppose they just don't want to spring for them...

That's the simplest explanation, I think. Fact is, CC does get results with their style, and I can see similar car brokers wanting some of that action.

Emanuel

PS: I agree with the poster that claims the car's been up before. I remember it as well, mostly because of those awful seats. IIRC, it wasn't photographed as well last time, and didn't meet the reserve.

I gotta believe a numbers-matching '73 S Targa has some good value. If it doesn't now, it surely will. One of the funnest cars ever.

Oh no they haven't... a dedicated section of their website and it even has a full resume of the gothic girl:
