Carerra Tail Removal

Esteemed Members,

Could anyone post pics of before and after removal of a Carerra Tail. I just purchased an 89 911 Anniversary edition and would love to see what that this style car looks like without the Carerra tail.

Are paint matching plugs the best route for the 4 screw holes?

Thanks in advance.

Matt

IMO using paint matching plugs would be a bad idea, just wouldn't look right cause they would stand out when lookin at the deck lid

I think most people buy another deck lid all together so you can swap back and forth to your preference

Thanks and agree. The Coupe without the tail is a nice classic look.

Also keep in mind the rubber welting/seal under the tail has a tendency to mess up the paint surface. So you would probably end up painting the lid, despite wanting to just use plugs for the holes?

Thanks Kevin. I am going to have Gene from ******** NJ figure out best route to proceed but now I know why some members recommend just having two separate lids one for tail and one without.

It's cheapest and best to buy another nonspoiler decklid, and have it repainted.

Putting plugs in the holes is not an option. That is extremely ghetto and looks terrible.

It would cost you more to have the holes welded up and finished up than it would to buy a new decklid. I did the same thing you are doing, and bought my spare decklid in perfect condition for $100.

Having your original, unaltered spoiler decklid is impt, because you may change your mind and want it back, and if you ever sell, it will add a lot of value. The only downside is you need to have room to store the beast! Mine is hanging from the rafters in my garage.

Surf65,
I agree with all the guys... buy another plain decklid and have it painted to match your car. Then you can simply swap back and forth.
I have an 89 S.A coupe... is yours a coupe or cab?
Would love to see a pic of your car!
Thanks!

Yep, this is obvious as soon as you remove the tail, not likely you will find a pristine usable finish under that gasket, mine definitely isn't.

Seems to be a lot of threads just now on tail removal. The cars look great either way, why do we all want to make so much work for ourselves?

When I removed mine I got a used decklid and had it painted. Now I can change it back whenever I feel like it.
