Rebirth of a targa

In April of 2009 I bought a modifed 1970 targa. It had been converted to a turbo look, poorly painted in escalade pearl paint. In the winter I decided to redo the interior, fix the bad paint areas, and respray the whole car. Doing mechanical issues as found. Here is the journey....................................this is what she stated out as. Frank

Wow. That was a '70?

Looking forward to seeing what you've done.

Next installment of "ELKE"

Today's installment. Here is how far we took it after removing the carpet and discovering rust in sill plates and rocker panels. Frank

The decision was made to take it down to the bare tub, fix the rust/imperfections and modify to my liking since the car was not original to begin with. I do not intend to do this again.

Not going to "re-date" the car? Sure would look sexy as an RSR longhood Targa.

Your sump plate is on wrong; the drain bolt needs to go 90 degrees from where you have it. As your photo shows it, it should be off to the left. If you do not change it the scavenge pump will not pick up correctly and you could end up with a case full of oil.

Thanks Lindy, I will check it, I drained the oil and put it back on in the first place. The car was checked over by a certified mechanic before running it, he may have caught and corrected it, i will double check it. This is great info for me as I did not know that.

I wish I would have posted more pictures of my build and avoided some of the mistakes I made. I'm just glad to catch it and bring it to your attention. It should look like this:
