what is this thing?
this came included in my boxes-of-parts 1973.5 911 Targa restoration project. This looks like part of the interior but I cannot find it in any parts catalog or online search. It is made of rubber and has a chrome strip that evidently fits in the side groove channel. It looks like it may be part of a door trim, but for the life of me I can't place it or find it in my manuals. Thanks for any help.

That looks to be the top trim piece for the front interior door pocket, often called the map pocket. You are missing the bottom "box" part. This piece, along with the box, combines with the long, fold out pocket that fits under the arm rest. Originals in good condition are the hen's teeth of interior pieces for long hood cars.

thank you
thanks for the info. Are there supposed to be 2 of these? Because I only have one, and it is in pretty bad condition with chunks of rubber missing.

yes, there should be one for each side. If you go with RS door panels or something similar you wont need them at all.
