New Exhaust Idea's Needed

Hello,

Looking to upgrade my exhaust, just getting some idea's for direction.

1983 SC, I do have a BB cat bypass that I have not installed yet. Never drive the car in the winter.

Light track days and just weekend fun.

Thinking about keeping stock up to muffler and bypass.

Like the m&k muffler, thoughts on just installing headers and muffler and loosing the
heat.

Thanks in advance!

Why not SSIs headers? Huge gain in torque and horsepower, plus way lighter, plus heat.

Here's what I did on my '78 SC. I needed to keep emissions down, so it's a dual Cat Magna Flow system, off of SSIs. Makes great power, great heat, great sound (a bit rowdy for sure), and weighs a lot less then the stock SC hardware.

Full system build thread here.

Except SSIs are hard to get and back ordered since the sale to Dansk...

I suppose equal length no-heat headers would be an easier option. I guess I should say that the stock headers on the SC are very restrictive, so if NotaFastM wants more power, that's the first place I'd look on a SC.

I'm thinking about doing my exhaust in the next year or so. If Dansk has the SSIs by then and the quality is good I might do those. I hear another good option is the rarlyl8 headers.

Unless you really need the power I would go with what you have. Maybe get a Bursch muffler. The next step would be SSI's with a Bursch. Given the weather in OH I wouldn't be too quick to give up the heat.

Cool

If heat is not an issue but a race car like sound is (what I did) then a Bursch header with a M&K single out (2 out is 2 loud)
A little sandblasting then some 2000 degree paint and primer to add durability.

First try, bypass only. little difference.(pic 1)

Second try, Bursch muffler ....deeper sound, not sporty enough IMO also alignment issue, (not horizontal see pic 2)

This has the sound I wanted, Bursch header with M&K(pic 3)

Installed after sandblast and ceramic coating

There is a link to the sound at a previous post "3.2 Carrera Bursch with M&K"

Great information! Thanks so much, I do like the header and m&k idea but your probably right to keep the heat in Sunny Cleveland.

Thanks so much!

Nice Ganun! If I didn't need heat, and didn't have to pass emissions, that looks like a great way to go!

NotaFastM, the SSI headers are equal length headers looking similar to the Bursch headers, just shrouded in the heater boxes, so they really are a good header with heat.

Good luck and post what you decide to do.
