Thats a VW Type IV engine, not a 356 or 912 one.

I have not seen it in person yet, the claim was made that it was a Porsche engine. Awesome Steve - thank you.

Though it is a type IV vw engine, it is the same type used in the four cylinder Porsche 914 and the 76 Porsche 912 so the claim may still be valid.

Serial number should be on top near the oil filler.

Judging by the "oil tower" it was never in a Porsche. Looks to be more like a VW van motor, and if so it would have been run very hard. It might be worth as much as $100. The serial # would help a lot.

It doesn't have the 2.0L heads. You can tell by the intake studs.

It's probably never been in a Porsche.

$100 would be overpaying IMO.
