Question: Brake Dust - I've never had any...normal?

I'm curious is it is normal for a 911 to never have any brake dust.

I rebuilt my calipers about a year ago and the brakes work ok. I've gotten used to the brakes as my '74 does not have a brake booster so pedal effort is much more than a normal, modern car. I used Pagid brake pads.

I've never had any brake dust like I get on all my other cars and I had thought that maybe this was due to the amount of space between the wheel and rotor but now I'm thinking that maybe my pads cause low dust and possibly contributes to the extra pedal effort.

I would prefer to have great brakes vs. low dust. I wash the car almost weekly so dust would not be much of a problem anyway.

Can anyone chime in on their experience.......thanks...Vern

Hey Vern.

I don't get much, if any, dust either. My brakes work great and, like you, I don't have a booster.

The pads you have really affect the dust situation.

It's all about the pads. Some pads are far dustier than others - some (organics and ceramic) are virtually dust-free. I don't think that there is any direct correlation between the amount of dust and stopping power.

I just don't brake. Hence no brake dust.

Although humorous, you may have a point....most of my other cars are automatics and so no downshifting and more braking. maybe that's one reason I don't get brake dust when compared to my other cars.

Minimal for me (cheapo pads) and great stop-on-a-dime braking!
