Monterey Historics - Porsche Paddock? Pelicans Participating?

I'm thinking of taking the Porsche to the Monterey Historics this summer. I've gone every year for 10+ years, but this is the first time I've had a car that I could potentially park in one of the "marque paddocks". (Funny, I never could find the "old Land Rover paddock" or the "three-quarter-ton pickup paddock").

So, has anyone gone down to the Historics and joined the Monterey Bay Porsche Club in the paddock? My impression is that I'd have to join the club and pay $65 to park. Did you find it worth the money? For example, does the club do other fun stuff that weekend?

And are any other Pelican folk going? I gather Chevy is the honored marque this year. That may not sound so great, but substitute "Can-Am" for Chevy and I bet it gets more intriguing. Nothing like 1998 (Porsche), of course.

GIBSON is one of the people who know a lot about Monterey! I'm not sure what the deal is this year, but I thought that only the featured marques could park in the paddock area. This year it's Corvette.

I will be there both days, chatting with the guys who own the 908s again!

John, if you have never parked in the corral you should do so at least once. It's not paved parking but it is in a good space, inside turn 5 so lots of good views. The corral pass includes lunch. In the past it's only been on Saturday, there has been some talk about a Sunday corral but I don't know if that is going to happen.
Saturday is the biggest day at the Historics with some of the crowd going over to the Concours on Sunday.
The featured margue is actually Corvette, our ticket sales are up this year and we are planning on a fairly large crowd. Probably not the size of Porsche in '98 when we actually had to shut the track down for a couple of hours just to organize parking.

Be sure to keep the weekend of October 5/6 open, we'll be hosting a race called the US Sports Car Invitational. It will feature
vintage GTP and GT cars from the 70's and 80's (i.e. lots of Porsche 911's, 934/935 and 956/962's). Also, the PCA Club Racing group will be present for the first ever open-decibel club race weekend at our track. There will be a swap-meet, concours etc. Should be a great weekend.

I've never joined the Monterey Porsche Club at the paddock, but I'd like to know about it too.

I'll definitely be there this year, but I may not bring the p-car.

I also plan to see the Monterey Sports Car Auction and the Pebble Beach Concours on the same weekend.

Here's the events that are going on that weekend (I'm going to try to squeeze in all of them)

Friday: Concourso Italiano. Alfa, Fiat, and of course Ferrari concours. I have not been to this one yet, but I hear it's not to be missed!
Saturday (and Sunday): Laguna Seca Historic Races (Corvette the featured marque - should be huge!!!)
Sunday: Concours at Pebble Beach and Monterey Auction

Wayne, there is now a Porsche section and the Concours Italiano so it's better than ever. Just plan on lots of traffic on Carmel Valley road Friday afternoon. It's usually gridlock trying to get around. That concours has hurt our Friday attendance a bit and also made Saturday a bit more crowded but it's still a great weekend. Don't forget Christies' auction Sunday in Pebble Beach.

GIBSON, so I should join the Monterey P-club to park in the paddock, correct? I printed off the form and have it around here somewhere, I recall it says that includes admission to the paddock, etc. Just want to make sure that is the way to go.
