911 (1974 Euro) Rear Seat Cushion Installation
I am restoring a 74 Carrera , Euro spec MFI engine. It has an uncommon single rear seat cushion which I am having difficulty fitting.
It is a single cushion that fits over the transmission tunnel and each bum spot. The old cover was half torn out and in bad shape when I got the car but I have had a trimmer make a new one that should fit, but I am having difficulty now deciding the installation sequence of things. I think the correct sequence is sound absorbent mat then the side carpets over the mat. This results in the mat sitting on the body held in by the carpet on each side. So Far so Good. I am pretty sure the sewn cushion cover is glued to the single foam seat pad which hooks over the front edge of the seat and is itself glued to the sound absorbent mat. The rear of the cushion cover can be fixed to the 4 mounting points used to fix the Rear Seat Backs. So Far so Good. The real problem is the sides of the cushion. There is no sign of glue on the old side carpets, not that that would make a reliable fixing. The cover does not have a neatly sewn edging on each side either. Has anybody seen this seat cushion in a car, or can otherwise help?

There were a few pics of those rear seats on this forum, but can't remember where exactly. However, what I recollect is they were on Japan spec cars.

Its a LHD car that came to me from Japan. I dont know if being a Japanese spec car precludes it from being a Euro spec. Can it be a Euro spec for Japanese delivery?

For at least some period late 70's, early 80's, Japan was a separate market and got their own motor codes/emissions equipment (motor types 930/62 and 930/65 are Japan-only)... No idea what the situation was earlier in the 70's though.

Yep, Japanese spec. The cars are much the same as RoW, but in the 80s, the engines/emissions were similar to US spec. I have loads of pics of JDM cars wih that back seat treatment. Never seen it in any other market.

I seem to have misplaced most of the Japanese spec rear seat pics I thought I had.
This is from a late 80s impact bumper Carrera. ![]() This is from a 964. Still different seats than the norm, but different again from the earlier seats.
