Registering a european car

I am bringing in a car from Europe, to California. I am moving to the PNW in about 3 years and would like to know if I can store the car in a storage facility and not register the car? I would like to register the car when I move to the PNW. Why should I pay the high taxes, if I do not intend to use the car while in California.
I understand about the insurance part, where you can't insure the car if its not registered, so I understand about that part.

i think you can insure it without registering it. you may even be able to get some kind of storage insurance. You just cant register a car without first insureing it
