3.4 upgrade for '87 worth it?

What's the consenous out there for this upgrade? Cost effective for the gain? Remeber it will be using Calif. 91 octane gas. Only other mod's done is a Euro premuffler and a Dansk SS muffler added. Maybe C2 cams would be a better avenue, at least cheaper.

I looked into this prior to doing my Turbo conversion. With the price of the P&C's at around $3.5k USD (approx $8k AUD by the time it lands in Oz), I decided against it.

Instead, I put that money into the components for my turbo conversion and haven't looked back.

IMHO, not really worth the added 6% of HP. You'd be better off getting a performance header system for that $$$$.

Just my 2c...

As RichardNelson said (hah don't think you can confuse us by changing name) I too would recommend a 3,4 conversion only when you are rebuilding your engine anyway.

Can't you take the 95mm cylinders and bore them out to 98mm. Then replate the nickasil and add JE pistons? This would be cheaper than new P+C's, right?

Certainly would be a cheaper option. I may look into that also when it comes time to do a rebuild and capacity upgrade on my turbo 3.2. The trick is finding a machinist you can trust!

May be worth just sending the 95mm cylinders to JE to have machined, recoated and new forged pistons @ any C/R made to suit.

I'm told this is what RUF and Mahle do - bore out the 95 C's to 98.

I've done this - sort of. I twin plugged mine and went to a higher compression. I would not say my setup was cost effective compared to a 3.6 conversion. EBS sells bored out replated cylinders and JE pistons for around ~$2400 I think.
