Will a 964 rear defrost switch work as a replacement for '88 911 push button switch?
Deleted my console and am moving my hazard and rear defrost switches to the dash. I was thinking that the 964 rocker switch could go in the rectangular blank next to the ignition switch...

FWIW the defroster switch in my '90 is a pull switch.

I deleted my console, and moved the defrost and hazard switches to under the glove box. I retained the rectangular box they clip into (it's modular and slides away from the a/c rectangle). Sitting in the car you can't tell they are there, but you can reach up under and press them.
Those two switches are way more complicated, and carry way more current than I think they should - hard to think they could be replaced by a simple switch without adding some relays. The hazard switch seems to have every blinker wire on the car running thru it. I realize a picture is worth way more than my text, but I don't have my car at work today :-( Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 346k miles |

Porterdog - Thanks I thought my '91 had a rocker switch for the rear window defrost but its been a long time...
Chuck H - good idea and simple too! The hazard switch seems way too complicated for the job. 346k on your Turbolook, well done! Id like to reinstall both switches in the dash to look as factory as possible. The power lock switch is totally unnecessary and will be left out...

One option may be to remove the ashtray and make a panel to fit in the space - I did that and have a voltmeter plus my XM radio there.
And +1 on the lock button removal; I just disconnected mine, taped up the connector and tucked it behind the carpet with no problems. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 346k miles |
