Early mirros on SC

Anyone ever put these early style mirrors on an SC?

Door Mirror, Black, Right, 911 74-77

I wonder if one could machine an adapter to use the original base plate instead of welding up the door.

I saw a guy paint a piece of metal body color and shape it to fit in the flag mirror gasket. I think he was running 935 mirrors. Looked pretty good from 10 feet. If you make an adapter to go in the flag mirror holes I would buy a pair.

I would love to see one of the aftermarket manufacturers make a base just big enough to cover the holes in our doors, but then build the rest of the mirror to replicate the manual flag mirrors.

Here is a link where somebody does what you are thinking about doing.
Want to replace my sideview mirrors

and here are some pics of his results.

I would think that if you painted your mirrors black, the method in the attached link would barely be noticeable.

Wow that is awesome, however - look at the difference in location of the mirrors on the 77 vs the white car (a 74 maybe). I wonder how the old mirrors would look in the flag mirror location?

Maybe some one else has done it and can show us.

Love the 'Black laminant' aka electrical tape!

Hmmm - my '77 has the flag mirror base precisely where it is on the white car?

Interesting, I think my 84 has them where the 77 shows them. I wonder why its in different spots, I thought it was based on the mirror style from that year?

Looking again at the white car that covered area looks smaller than the collection of holes shown on the red race car later in the post. I wonder if the white car had the 74 mirrors which I think had a smaller base than the flags.

+1 - I'd buy a pair if they were available.

I just went and looked at the article; y'know what, I think the passenger mirror is in a different location (further back) than driver's. Probably to do with viewing angle from the seat.

Hard for me to be sure, as my '77 only has a driver's side mirror

Do the early style mirrors come apart from their base? If so you would only have to adapt the flag mirror base to the early style mirror.

The mirror on the white car above looks like and early-early mirror. My '74 has the same mirrors but they are a little larger and have more squared corners (like the one advertized in the link).

Fyi, the base will come off the mirror with one nut holding it on but I don't think a flag base would fit or look right.

Here's my '74:

Yah the flag base is not nearly as elegant, its not just the mirror, its the whole thing.

The white car has '72-'73 flag mirrors. I believe the base is the same as a '74-'75 flag mirror. I just posted that because it's a solution to the original problem that doesn't look ridiculous, and would be even more invisible on a black painted mirror.

I've seen pics where people machined a stalk so that they could mount a '74-'75 flag mirror section to the later electric flag mirror base. The stalk was made fatter so that it matched the hole of the upper flag, but then flared down to the electric base. It looked goofy and the owner was having problems finding a spring with enough strength to keep the flag from flattening out at high speed.

I'll try to find a pic of it.

FWIW, the Durant mirrors used from 1969 to 1971 will cover the holes in a door with electric mirrors.

Found it!

Here is a pic of what I was talking about. The car is light colored too, so it is very easy to see.

Here is a description of what was done. I noticed the mirrors in a for sale ad, and asked the original poster how he did it.

Vitaloni Sebring mirrors can be made to work with the flag base. IMO they look like they belong on the car.
