any 1977 911 geniuses out there? signal light question
Signal light indicators on dash glow dimly all the time. All signal lights work fine, except for front right and left. Any suggestions? Please help before cops make their usual suggestions...Thanks!

Pull lenses and check and clean all contacts. Check ground for coating of corrosion and clean as idicated. Use multitester after cleaning all contacts, for 12 volts across each socket while turn signal is on.
On yea check bulbs, the filiments are hard to see on the signal bulbs. Check connections behind lamp housing. Good luck.

Well...after you do what Marc says replace the flasher...it should be tucked behind the fuel gauge...or maybe you can try cleaning contacts on the flasher and female wire plug...the flasher ain't cheap...do let us know the final results.........Ron

Here's an update...Without touching anything, now not only don't the front signals work, but the right rear taillight is out, too. So is the left front parking light.
Is my car possessed?

ok, this may seem totally out of wack...check the backup light switch/wires on the tranny. This is part of the same circut and I had this happen to me last month. I had one of the wires pull out of the tranny and was causing a short, once it was fixed and the fuse was replaced everything is working great.

My 77 922S had the exact same symptoms. There was a short in the wiring behind the right headlamp. Turn signal indicators glowed dimly always and directionals didn't work. Be careful - check the wiring harness by the fuse block - wires on mine started to melt away while I was trouble-shooting. You likely have a short. If it is in the front, the rears will also stop working - mine was also proressive like yours.
Remove the front turn signal assemblies and headlamp assemblies and check the wiring carefully for shorts or crossed circuits. Have you or anyone else been doing a wiring up there (new fogs, H4s, etc.)? The PO of my car crossed the circuits while wiring the driving lamp bulb in the H4s. R. |
