Porsche 911 50th anniversary Photo spread
Interesting comparison of the original vs current car.
If you weren't aware of how big the 991 has grown to be, this series will drive it home. Porsche celebrates 50 years of 911 with some excellent pics

Personally, I prefer older models. I can't believe how bigger the 911 became since the 993...

I parked mine next to a Boxter at the dealer. The Boxter looked enormous relative to mine

I like to post this every once in a while when this topic comes up... ![]() My buddy, who owns a Mini, came over the other day and started telling me how small his car is...it stopped him for a second when I said I think his car is taller than my 4X4 964?

Exactly my point. What has really made it seem as tho the size increased so much is that all "negative space" (cuts) on the early car are gone, and filled in with positive space (bulges). Also, the butt has risen quite a bit.
I'm sure this helps air flow, drag, lift, etc. but the cars are not nearly as pretty. As Rod & Truck put it when comparing the 996 & 993, P AG has "shaved off dollops of charm." |

"Also, the butt has risen quite a bit."
I wonder how much of that can be attributed to the elimination of the dry sump? If the later motor had to be mounted higher it could have prompted changes to body work. Markus |
