Looking for new spark plug wires and opinions

As my engine goes back together I am looking at buying new spark plug wires. I am not sure there can be any real performance gain, but the old ones look old and maybe original.

What is a good recommended replacement set for my '83 3.0?

I put a set of Clewett's on my '83 a couple of years ago and it was a huge improvement. The original Berus are grounded wires and some people believe you should only use the them because the grounding was part of the factory's attempts to solve the problems with air boxes blowing up. Do a search and you will find several debates on this topic. Do you have a pop-off valve installed?

I run Magnacor's and in 12 years never had a problem with them. I've never heard anyone complain about the Magnacor's or Clewett's.

Beru

My cap is from Beru so I have Beru wires. You probably won't replace again for a "long" time so..... They all work together, the wire lengths fit, the wire diameters fit my holders and clamps. Black color isn't as sexy but I'm OK with that.

One of the knocks on Beru wires has been the plug ends can fail, since that is where the resistance comes from (resistors are inside the plug end). Nice thing about the Berus is they are "modular" and you can take them apart. The plug ends and cap ends unscrew from the wires. So you can buy bulk wire and new wire end terminals and make your own "new" wires if you want to.

Clewett makes nice stuff and is a great resource to the 911 community. He always answers questions promptly whenever I contact him about ignition & engine management stuff.

Magnecor wires are nice as well. One thing about them I don't like is the plug ends don't snap on to the spark plug with much positive engagement. But in the 10 yrs. I have had them on my '87, i've never had one pop off. It's been driven hard and hit some bumps at speed, so the wires have somewhat been put to the test.

Both the Clewetts and Magnecors can be bought thru the Pelican site catalog BTW

Spark plug wires will NOT gain any horse-power or performance. The stock cables will work as will any other decent set of wires.

I run Magnacor's in my 84, they look good and seem very rugged.

The cars with CDI such as your 83 do produce higher voltage than traditional coil used in the 84-89 cars. For this reason select a real good cable that has plenty of insulation with very well fitted ends to prevent any arcing. The Magnacor wires fit the bill.

I also routed my cables differently than the OEM route and mounts, here's a picture of my setup with magnacor wires.

I had old Berus on before and my car did not like rain or an engine wash. Probably due to age rather than quality.
Just recently did Clewett's wires and my car was in the rain all day yesterday and you would have never known.

Magnacore's no doubt. The ends are the only ones that make it easy to put on and off.

Regarding my comment about the Clewetts being an improvement, replacing with Berus could've probably accomplished the same thing. When I bought the car I had to sort out some problems and changing out the original plug wires made a huge improvement. I have been very happy with the quality of the Clewetts and they have given me no problems so far.
