993 style mirrors?

Anyone bought a set of aftermarket 993 style mirrors? Where did you get them and how did you like the fit? I'm in the market for a set.

Thanks,
Jeff

I hear B.W Motorsports sell high quality fibreglass units. They even pre-assemble them for you on request as these are suppose to be a PITA to assemble.

Something on my TO-DO list also...

I have purchased these mirrors from them. I believe they are factory Porsche kits. NOT replica. They will assemble if you ask. They are very helpful, and have excellent service. AS well as the lowest prices around. Top notch place as far as I'm concerned..

Hi just got my Aero mirror kit in Friday. I plan to update the C2's mirror in the next month or so. Need to decide what all Im going to paint (H4 headlight rings, aero mirrors, 993 door handles ?, add-on tail ?, air scoops) then get it all done at once.
What did B.W. motorsports get for them ? and I can try and match that price, unless the bought a container full of them and where blowing them out. As you can see from the pic, assembly might take some time. I hope I can find the work shop manual with instructions.
I'll keep you posted as I add goodies...

I was quoted $350 from BW.

Not sure if that was a once off deal. They normally go for $395 or so I believe.

I think I paid about $300 for mine on ebay, and they were assembled and seemed to be in new condition. The guy I bought them from had several pairs at the time. User name is teutonics - you can look him up. Installation was very easy in a 90 C4.

Buy them from Pelican, this is what i would do have them shipped to you paint them then send them back to Pelican to have them compress that friggin spring, the label should read warning if you are mechanicaly challeneged or dont have the right tool, DONT TRY IT, serious that sping took me numerous trips to the store trying to find something to compress it, Talk to wayne maybe they can do this or rent you the tool, Please dont take me lightly about the spring do a search, you other guys should pop in if you have the right tool or to help, the only thing i dont like is the passenger mirror is not a objects are closer then they appear im used to it in my other cars and when i drive the P-car i have to get used to it, anyway other then the spring its a real simple conversion and looks great, Kevin

Hi Guys,
Ok, before I can say one way or the other, I need to know if the $350.00 and $300.00 prices are for Manual mirrors or Electric mirrors?
Hmmm, I could hardly get the two spring apart! They where stuck together. And I have to compress them ? No way !
Great, probably some special 100.00 tool !
I'll see what I can find out.

the assembly is made easier, though still not easy, by tightly clamping a 4" long, 3/8 bolt in a vise horizontally, and leaning into it hard, to compress the spring and turn the hollow nut. the 9/16 head on a 3/8 bolt is close to the 14mm 12 pt tool that fits the nut.

On a related note since we're talking aero mirrors. I have a set with a broken motor. I have the new motor already. All I need to do is get the old motor out. The electrical connector at the end where it plugs into the harness is too big to pass through the pivot. It there some trick to getting the motor out without disassembling that big spring we all seem to fear so much? Any advice appreciated.

Looks like take it apart, or cut and re-splice the wires...I would take it apart. I have a call into Porsche for the instructions, maybe that will shed some light on the topic.

Don,
Thanks for your reply. I just realized that even if I take it apart the round red connector cannot pass through the huge spring loaded screw thingie. How did they get it through in the first place?

There is a tool made specifically for removing the wires from the plastic plug. I got mine from Mac Tools for around $45.00. It's impossible to take them apart any other way.
