Your new pop-up is not working so well on my machine. I get a script error with every one. Also, it is not obvious that the window I expected is behind the pop-up (with the error message)
. . or is this the "new breed" of EXtRa AnYOiNG poop-ups . . .

The plain pop-behind is working fine here and just as inappropriate as any other !#$% pop-up.

Not to take the shine off Wayne's pop-up, but for those of you that haven't installed a pop-up killer, here's a link to Analog-X site for POW. I get so sick of all those annoying pop-ups and since I've installed POW they are kept at a minimum....easy to install and use.

Hmmm, I'm getting the new Driveworks page as a pop-up. The page I was going for comes in behind, and hidden.
Viruses/anti-virus fixes, pop-ups/anti-pop-up fixes. . .these computers, such simple time saving devices! ![]() Back to wrenching on the 911. Atleast there I won't need the latest "wrench patch" before proceeding. |

Hey man, wayne's gotta sell stuff to keep this place goin'.
I won't complain until he starts selling ad pop ups saying "Pump yourself up to 9" in 3 weeks! Nothing goes better with your 911 than a 9" Penis! Order today!" And each Porn/Penile pump ad generates 10 different windows, each of which generate several windows on their close events, one of which is a some gay site that says "You've never been to a PCA event like this one, but you'll want to Cum over and over" so that if you go to the forum, so many windows pop up, you run out of memory and by the time you've closed the windows, you've completely closed your browser--except for the penil pump ad, which locks up your system.

I understand the need to advertise, but why should I pay for it? Spending my valuable free time dealing with pop-ups is a major turn-off. Why would anyone expect a person to buy a product from someone who annoys you?
Chris, thanks for the link - it seems to work on my Mac anyway.

Would you like me to charge for using the BBS instead? -Wayne

Wayne, we already know about Drivewerks. Why not write another line in your script to detect a cookie on those who have already seen it and then NOT pop it for us?

Yes. If running the BBS is an expense that you cannot cover through revenues generated by the on-line traffic it generates, without resorting to pop-ups, then I for one would be willing to contribute what is necessary to allow it to continue in it's present state.
I am not complaining just to complain, Wayne - this BBS is of value to me. I would rather spend my time contributing to it's success, than dealing with the pop-up. I'm a photographer, let me know what I can do to help.

Well, 10,000 people log onto the BBS each day.
A total of less than 2,000 people have looked at the DriveWerks Home page since I announced it on the BBS, and placed the small banner ad in the upper right hand corner. I realize that everyone is frustrated with sites that abuse their users. This window pops up under, only once per session, and isn't for an xcam, but something that everyone might be interested in. Also, to make it more palatable and interesting, it's going to have a 'tip of the day' message at the top, and is going to be more random... -Wayne

Wayne-
I too wouldn't mind if it was a one-time-only pop-up. However I, like a lot of users, like to open a new window for each interesting thread. So, getting a pop-up for each new window gets pretty annoying. I think that most people associate pop-up windows with negative advertising, like spam. Also, it might not completely turn away us users that have been here a while, but for someone stumbling across it for the first time, it could be a deal-breaker. This BBS is a great resource, and we really can't thank you enough for bringing it to us. It's just that the pop-up windows make for a less efficient, less enjoyable, more frustrating experience, especially to people who browse using multiple windows. |

It *should* only popup one window per session. I.e. until you quit out of your browser again. This will occur correctly, unless of course, you have cookies turned off. But then again, you cannot access this site, and have cookies turned off at the same time...

Wayne:
For the most part, I find pop-ups annoying. BUT, since yours only pops up the first time, it isn't that bad. Plus, a pop-up to a related site like Drive Werks is a good idea. Eric 83SC

My pleasure. Sometimes people on this BBS need to sit back and realize what kind of service you are providing us and what it costs us. For that price, I don't mind a little minor distraction. But, if I get a pop-up that takes me to a site for Porsche dash-cams, I might change my opinion! Keep up the good work.

I don't mind it at all.
Wayne, you do a good job, and we all enjoy the board. Market us and use the board as you see fit. Jeb '79 930 PS. Pop-ups like this are not bad - but they have gotten a bad rap because of all the bozo's that open multiple windows and other such nonsense |

Wayne,
Pops up everytime I open IE. Have gotten it four times in the last 10 minutes, everytime I need to open a new browser window to search for something. I have Pelican as my "main page" on the browser so anytime I open IE it comes up. If this is going to keep doing this multiple times then it will be changed and I do not want to do this but am not going to keep getting several windows coming up all the time. I support by buying parts and do not mind it happening one time each session but this is getting to be a bit much... Joe
