I think I'd try the star tool solution above, if that doesn't work then give JB weld a shot; maybe you'll get lucky. Personally I would try everything before I intentionally snap off a stud!

Try a fluted/spiral easy-out extractor that you have cut/ground to a suitable tip size that you have to hammer into the stripped hex. Sacrificing the easy-out is the key to best grippage! This works great on head stud barrel nuts that are the bigger M10 size. So I think it'll work on the smaller M8 barrels too
