Fuch wheels

Were all fuch wheels anodized? I think my wheels are chrome, but not sure if they could have been original in 1976 ROW.
Why would people change to chrome, is it a personal preference?

To the best of my knowledge, yes, all were anodized. The accent paint varied from year to year, but the base finish was always anodized.

Why chrome or polish? Personal preference, as you note. Some people prefer a brighter finish than the anodized.

And just FYI, it's not Fuch, it's Fuchs. Fuchs wheel. Rhymes with books, just replace the b with an f.

As Arne said, they were all anodized. Some folks polish them, and others had them chromed. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. I don't think they ever came chromed from the factory.

Fox auf Deutsch, ist Fuchs.

That's why I am asking. I don't know if mine are chromed or anodized. I guess I need to go and look at an anodized one up close.
Thanks

They were ALL anodized at the factory. All of them. The polishing or chroming part is the question. Anodization is a surface treatment using electricity (very broadly speaking). It provides a very hard protective coating for aluminum. (And for other metals as well, but Fuchs wheels are made of aluminum.)

Some folks remove this surface in order to get a mirror surface - search the forums to find out what steps are taken in polishing a Fuchs wheel..

Other folks use a plating process to add to the wheel a layer of mirror surface material.

It is very unlikely that someone would polish more than the front surface of the wheel (polishing is a pain in the butt, lol). But a plater would have to submerge part or all of the wheel in the plating bath to get get the plating to stick. So there will be evidence of this somewhere else on the wheel, other than the front surface.
