RS Write-In Campaign
After reading 89911's post about the new Z car, I remembered Nissan "reissued" the 240Z thru dealers a few years ago.
I wonder if enough letters could encourage Porsche to do the same with the RS - maybe a narrow body 3 liter with vario stacks and the new suspension sub assembly set up - four or five colors, six speed, analog gauges, no a/c, no c/d, no rear seats, manual mirrors, windup windows, rubber mats instead of floor carpet....

I'm all for it, but I think the odds are slim. I think Nissan may be selling the new Z as a 'loss leader' just to get folks in the door and get the name in the news (it sure worked for VW with the new Beetle!). Don't know if this strategy would work for a low-volume producer like Porsche?
In a related note, I'm not sure if this is 'news' or not: I saw a prototype Mustang with manufacturer's plates driving around Detroit last week - it's a re-creation of the 69/70 Mach 1. Complete with 'shaker hood scoop', stripes and similar wheels. I guess the Bullit Mustang was so successful Ford are continuing the theme. Looked pretty good. I heard they may also resurrect the 70 Boss 302 with a new 5 liter (302 cubic inch) motor! -- Curt |

I agree Curt - but it would be fun!
About the Z - I doubt Nissan is losing money per unit sold. It will take time to earn back their investment in tooling and R&D but they are probably grossing 3-4K per unit at invoice to the dealer. I want Ford to make the Forty-Nine...
