Post In car video from 70 S racecar- Gingerman Historics

Gang,

I've posted some video from one of my races this year. This is VSCDA's Gingerman Historic races in South Haven Michigan, July 2001.

It shows two laps of me chasing down a 550 bhp Corvette. (I have 220 bhp). Sorry for the sponsorship text at the bottom, but they write checks...

Click here for the Real Audio/Video clip

and here for my racing home page.

Any suggestions on my homepage of the video would be greatly appreciated... (None on driving technique, haha!

Thanks for the ride!
The only thing your missing is some ZZtop or Sammy Hagar tunes to go with the show!

Awesome, Chris. That engine sound is great!

I'm going to have to teach myself how to do the graphics over the picture, now. Yours looks like it's right out of one of those Euro touring car shows.

Keep 'em coming!

Chris,

Great job chasing him down! Clearly, you were driving better than he was (he missed his apexes by a bunch). You gobbled him up fairly quickly in the corners, but his extra 330 bhp made him quicker down the straights. Great footage!

Chris

Great Video, the car sounds great and looked like it was handling well. Did you notice a big difference when you added your front extension? I've been thinking about adding that piece as well.

Mike,

It definitely helped in the higher speed corners, keeping down understeer (I put it on for The Kink at Road America).

One down side though, it cut down on the air cooling the brakes, and I think the front tires went away quicker. After 8-9 laps of Road America, the front tires would start to get a bit greasy. All in all, I think it was better.

OH... The a squealing you here in the corners was my wheel bearing detonating... ...and the smoke on the straight at the end of the first lap was a con-rod ventilating an engine block...

Chris,

Inspiring footage!

I'd like to know more about your exhaust system ...

You guys are decibel junkies!

The exhaust is a set of equal length headers (not sure of mfg) with Supertrapp megaphones. Nothing fancy. If I get a chance, I'll post measurements... I've been meaning to find out myself.

I'm going to post some video from Road America later today...

Nice. Since he seemed to be slowing you down in the corners, did he ever wave you by?

No, never waved me by... That's the good/bad thing about being out there with the big-bore cars... Trying to make corner passes, and making them stick... I did manage to beat him the next day, finally found his weak point and was able to get enough distance in the back of the track to stick the pass in the straights...

Very nice footage!
-
Not only was the Vette not holding the line (missed apexes and poor track out) he was braking far sooner than you were going into the corners. This is really apparent - you were coming up hard on his tail even well before turn-in. He looked liked he was driving with one or both eyes focused on the rear view mirror far too much rather than concentrating on following the correct line.
-
Nice job driving AND not falling into the trap of following the lead car's line!

Hmmmm, I get a file not supported on download. Is there a freebie download so that I can view the clip?

Mikey,

You need the Real player (RealAudio/RealVideo) for these (.rm, .ram, .ra files)

http://www.real.com

There is a freebie version, they just try to hide it under all the "plus" and "premium" links.

Again, superior braking and a better line than the other cars.

Nice driving.'

Yea baby! Nice ride. Get that Corvette!

I little tip for you fellows when recording in car race footage.

Want the best sound? This is what I do. Use an external mike that will connect to your camera and mount it on the rear of the car near the exhaust. The sound will improve a 100 times over. No kidding. If you have megaphones on headers, the recording will sound like Stevies 917 in Le Mans.
For those of you that have a RSR muffler or even the stock pre '74 muffler. If you don't have a video camera put a tape recorder in your car and run the mike to the rear of the car. And record, It's sound is awesome. Try it, you'll thank me later.
See ya later alligator....
