1976 911 hard cold start

Having issues starting the car after it sits for a while. Takes a good couple of cranks and then runs rough for a little bit before smoothing out. After it runs for a while it will fire right back up with no problem. The car is pretty new to me. Bought it after a family friend's father passed away and they had no interest in the car. So not much history on the car.

Mine does the same thing. I don't worry. I figure it is the fuel system getting up to full flow and the car being cold. After a few minutes, all is ok.

If it was me, I would leave it alone lest I screw up the CIS which is running fine in all other modes.

Sounds like loss of residual pressure but you won't know for certain unless you check the fuel system with a pressure gauge set. If you plan on doing any work on your CIS engine yourself, you must have access to a fuel gauge set. Very simple to operate and diagnose issues with the fuel system. If you lose you fuel pressure with the engine off, the result is exactly as you describe. There may be other issues as well, but this is the most likely.

And yes, you can leave it alone and live with it, but the system was not designed to have difficulty in starting under any circumstances. It's an easy fix once you find the exact cause, thus the need for a fuel gauge set.
