Gas mileage

I replaced 5 of my 6 injectors last Friday (vendor screwup - got one CIS injector in the batch). I filled it up that night.

The next day I drove around doing last-minute errands, drove to Woodland for dinner, then off to the track. Less than 1/8 of a tank.

I topped off when I got to Wilows.

I drove every session I could at the track, probably 6 sessions in all.

I used a little under 1/2 tank.

Normally, I go thru a tank and a half to two tanks on a track day.

Amazing.

Fuel Mileage...

Thom,
Is this a stock 3.6 motor? How many miles, about? What do you attribute the sudden improvement? Should we all be ordering new injectors??/ You have me wondering now.
Thanks,

So Thom, what kind of mpg do you get with the 3.6 in there?

Wow. Now I'm wondering, too. I burn a sinful amount of gas, and the car is running very rich. I was going to take it to someone who has the exhaust instruments to adjust the mixture, but maybe I should change the injectors first, eh?

It's counter-intuitive that bad injectors would use more fuel; it seems that an old injector would clog up and deliver less fuel. Anyway - I'm anxious to hear from the PPBB experts on this topic!

When you have a set of clogged injectors, not all are clogged the same amount and the ones that are clogged a significant amount will cause the 02 sensor to read a false lean condition forcing all the injectors to run a bit richer to compensate for the ones that are clogged and running lean.

Hope this helps,

Joe
