I've got a red dash...options?

I bought my 85 930 a few months back.
It has a red dash and had a red momo wheel.
I hate it. It looks horrid to me.

What are my options here?
I tried searching around for an OEM black dash and came up with nothing but $1k dashes and these dash covers. Im not sure if a dash cover is what I'm looking for?

I have no idea if this was a factory option 27 years ago or if someone replaced it along the way.
I'll attach some pictures so you guys can see.

Oh and I want a black dash!
What are my options?

Car!

Dash with new Mod.7 wheel

Again

Red wheel that came on the car.

dash, knee pads and ashtray look original and the rest of the interior has been changed

knee pads and ashtray should be easy to find used and fairly cheap, dashes come up for sale here every once in a while

place a WTB ad in the for sale section

of course you know wndshield has to come out to replace dash?

It looks like it is in very nice shape. I would remove it, and dye it. I would use Leatherique. Kind of a pain because you are going to SAND the leather, etc. But it will adhere permanently, look natural, etc.

Fair amount of work, but given that it's in nice shape, probably worth the effort. I know I would do it if it were my car.

any spray can black for plastic vinyl will solve the problem - go to Lowes or Home Depot & get the stuff for lawn furniture

I have used surflex on leather and vinyl and it works well on both, have not had to sand anything as I cleaned it very well first..
you could do that without removing the dash

Can be dyed, painted or replaced. Bad news is.....I think 87 is the first year you can pull a dash w/o having to pull the windscreen.

Thanks for all the replies!

I am definately more interesting in replacing the dash rather than painting or staining or modifying the red one.

I guess I really wanted to know if anything had a similar dash so I could figure out if it was re covered or original.

Change out or dye the wheel. Put a carpet like cover over the dash top. Keeps it from cracking in the sun and covers the red and you save a dump truck load of labor and cash.

You could put the car on the market .. a lot of people like the red interior ... then find one with a black dash .. there are lots of them ...

although the red dash red wheel a bit over board ... but some of the best concour cars I have seen have the all red .... wow .... that a lot of red ....

I would order a COA on the car and cinfirm whether it is original. Given the ongoing rise in 3.2 Carrera values you might rethink changing it. If original you have something kind of rare.

Yes I planned to do that.
This is why I do not want to modify it.

After I removed the red wheel its not as noticeable to me.

Just reread and realized this is a 930. I double my sentiment.

you can store the removed parts -- dye/paint costs less now but might cost more long term

If the dash is leather, you can re-dye it with good results and you *may* be able to do this without removing the dash from the car. If you want to have it recovered, we can do this with excellent results. PM me for more details.
