What type/year of oil cooler is this?

Hi All -
I was poking aorund on the new car this weekend. I am trying to find out what oil cooler is installed on my car. It looks factory, but nothing like the carrera coolers I fing on this site. After a bunch of searching on this site, I found this picture, but no explanation of what it is. Mine looks the same, but without the fan.

My car is a 77 "S" with a 3.2 conversion.

Thanks for any help -
Scott S

Not a factory type "I" have ever seen.....looks to be a hybrid trombone with fins....

Are you having elevated oil temp issues in stop and go or spirited driving?

That's a "Turbatrol" cooler, I think from a Texas company, the name escapes me at the moment.

Do a Google search for more info.

I took the car in to get its emmissions test this past weekend - a good 40 minute drive in stop and go trafic all the way there. Car ran flawlessly. Temp hit maybe 180-185 (ambient was in the low 70's).

When I arrived at the shop, he told me to let the car run while he did all of his set up - it took probably 10-20 minutes. The car passed with flying colors. When I hopped back in to head home, the temp was 210-212 - wich surprised me. Within 10 minutes in the same stop and go traffic, I was down to 190. By the time I got back home, I was back to 180.

One thing to note, my carr is a 77 with a 3.2 and a numbered gauge. I have no idea if the senders were matched/gauge is correct. I figured I would add a fan to make sure I was covering my bases. That was when I noticed the cooler looked different.

A cheap Raytek IR meter will tell you if the temp gauge is accurate. Idling for 15+ minutes will raise oil temps. The Raytek is a handy tool to have in the box.

If your temp went down AFTER it got warm, it's doing it's job. Adding a fan actually cuts down on air flow.

Leave it as is....

unless you got $400 bucks burning a hole in your pocket for the correct carrera part. might want to increase the cooling air coming from the front of the car. a fan would help but i wonder how long that fan will live on the wheel well side of the cooler,
