old porsche still with me
Gentlemen: I have recently purchased a 1988 Carrera Cabriolet and just love the car. I put a new top on her and a carpet kit.. The problem is I have my old porsche , 1972 911T that I have had for over 30 years and now she is just sitting in my shop and I don't know if I want to sell her or not. She is all original except the paint color which I changed when I bought her. She has 140K on engine and she has webers. What is she worth if I wanted to get rid of her?....Not sure I can part with her but just asking.... Thanks

As a long time owner of a '72T as well, I would tell you do not consider selling yours. You will miss it for the rest of your life! There is nothing like an old 911. Yours is easily worth upper 20s if not higher. YMMV

I agree with Bill, you will miss that car dearly if you let it go. I sold a very nice '67 911 in 1997 that I had owned for twenty five years. I still regret selling it to this day. Your cars will only appreciate and you should find a way to keep both.

The 2012 Excellence magazine buyer's guide indicates a '72 911T to be in the $32,000-42,000 range.
I'm with the rest of the gang. Keep it. That's a beautiful car.

If money is not an object, you should keep this car. It's value can only increase with time (assuming the car is original, well maintained and matching numbers). And the car looks great.

Don't sell it, you'll regret it. I sold a 1975 Corvette that I owned and hot rodded for 20 years, don't miss it a bit. Bought my '84 Carrera two years ago, will never sell it. I know I'd miss it.

KEEP THE CAR! All of the above are correct. You will miss the car and you will never be able to replace it. Nothing like the long hoods. I have a 70 that I bought new. I will NEVER sell it. My son gets it when I leave this worldly life. I bought an 88 carrera which I also love, but it is very different from the 70. Enjoy both. They offer different driving experiences.

That is one pretty '72! I'm with the rest, I'd keep that one. I find that the older I get the slower I go, and somehow the connection to the "experience" the simple narrow bodies gives is like no other.

I would say the way you talk about "Her" she probably has a name. And That alone is enough to keep her!

Looking at your "Garage", I think your are considering the wrong "T" to put up for sale.

Gentlemen: Thanks for all your comments... I have decided she is not for sale and the "BOSS" told me I was crazy for thinking about it. I will keep and cherish her. I had no idea she would be that popular. Thnaks again and KiwiJohn the other 'T" is for sale for sure.. I built her from the frame up 5 years ago and have won (3) cars show with her....
Thanks Guys, Herman in Oregon |

Keeping her is the right decision. But if you ever decide that she needs a new home not too far away, I'd be honored to be her custodian up here in Eugene.

It is a keeper
KEEP IT. I would not part with my "SMELLY OLD CAR" as many uninformed people call it. One day I heard a Long Hood 911 owner's spouse actually call his $100K+ restored 73 911S "that smelly old car". Old German cars have a distinctive smell from the euro interior materials used in the day. Had my long hood since 1985 through thick & thin. Old 911s have the real sports car feel of the road and a lot of character.
