Post Right directional turns on headlights

I guess I will have my work cut out for me. With the ignition off the right directional will turn my headlights on. Left does nothing. Turn the ignition on and the directional and head lights work correctly. But the left front directional does not come on. I will advise what I find!

pull the right headlight assembly out and reattach the wires properly. was it in a bodyshop? they think green wires should hook up to black. the turn signal and park light connections are in there.

That headlight/directional stalk is a major source of such problems. It does all sorts of crazy things when it begins to go bad. I suspect you'll end up changing it out.

George...sounds more like a problem you would be having in your Jaguar.

Yeah....I when I turn on my radio, the driver's seat reclines, the engine stops firing on the #5 cylinder, and the horn honks the tune of "mary had a little lamb".

Sorry I was of know help...hopefully provided some comic relief.

I would look at the two ideas posted above. I've wired one of the headlight/turn signal pathways on my car when I did my collision repair...a wierd setup with often questionable grounds and contacts.

Nick.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your problem, but I've also got a Euro spec car, which has a parking feature in the lighting. Basically, with the ignition off, if you engage the turn signal switch, the respective headlight and tail light will turn on. The headlight comes on in a dim mode. I assume this is used when you're parked on a street, as it allows you to illuminate the headlight and tail light that's out in the road.

Also, I don't have the typical "running" lights on my car. When I turn on the parking function on my headlight switch, both headlights turn on in dim mode, and the tail lights illuminate. I don't have front marker lights that come on.

I only bring these things up because I'm not sure if the US cars had lighting that worked the same way.

13 years since this original post, I am now having the same issues. With key in pocket, turning my left blinker on turns on the headlights. I checked the directional stalk and adjusted the contacts for dims and brights but found it hard to see the blinker contacts. Any suggestions??

Do you have headlight relays installed? It sounds like your your combination switch overheated. lnstall the relays first then see if you can make the high-low/turn signal switch function properly. If you can't, it may be time to replace it.

Relays have been ordered from our host.

Can the turn signal stalk be taken apart (other than the high beam / low beam switch contacts)?

Yes, it can, sort of on the car. once you remove the clam shell you will see the contacts and what they are doing when you activate the left turn signal.

Caution, disconnect the battery.

I would also check the fuse panel to insure the wires are in the proper fuse via wiring diagram. Left turn signal while car is off is suppose to turn on the left marker and engine bay light.
