Question cabriolet top problem

I have an '86 911 cab with the following cabriolet top problem.

The cloth on the cloth-covered rubber seals that fit against the top and rear side of the side windows is both tearing and is discolored (from black to light grey).

Can this be repaired? How? Do you know of a shop that does this kind of work (Chicago area)?

Thanks for any help.

You call that a cabriolet top problem?!? It works, doesn't it?

Granted this is a cosmetic problem. But there are many posts on this BBS dealing with cosmetic issues.

After I get the car to run right (and mine does), I want it to look good.

Just replaced my seals with new ones. I also cleaned and treated my top with the Porsche brand top treatment. Looks new!

B Pillar Seal

Top Side Seal
L-Outer-911561189668VB

About $ 100.00 a piece!

Black leather shoe dye works well for color, black weatherstrip adhesive may work on tear.Good luck!

An good upolstery shop may have the fabric in stock which you can buy and recover yourself. My local convertible shop recovered mine with new original fabric, and it looks great.

This is the way I see it. This is a cabriolet, the top goe's down and that is where it stays. Under the boot cover.
If the top was supposed to be up then I would get a coupe.

Had a similar issue. I actually used a black permanent magic marker to recolor, (but I like the shoe dye idea better), and it looked good. Also had the issue of fraying fabric and used the wetherstripping rubber glue - DON'T. It ended up looking worse that it did before.
