Distributor Drive Belt replacement

Distributor Drive Belt replacement, has anyone done it? Saw earlier today mine is broken, so ordered new belt. how hard is this ? Dizzy came out easy. how does it come apart and any tricks out there? look foward to all your help

Just do a Google on "964 distributer belt", lots of hits will come up! Here's a pretty comprehensive one:
Dual Distributor Belt Replacement

I did mine 15 or so years ago with no instructions, so it can't be too difficult!
If you are a fair mechanic you should have no problem.

Also if you don't have the "breather hose" retro fix on your distributer, make sure to install one. Will help prevent future broken belts.

Here's some info on a guy named Mark here in the Atlanta area that does a belt replacement for $150 if you don't want to tackle it. I've been to his home shop/garage, clinically clean (you could eat off the floor). here's the link:

after you get the gear off and the main shaft out, take out all the perimeter allen bolts, drive the two dowel pins almost out with a small punch. then the case halves can be separated sufficiently to swap the belts. no need to take the belt driven side apart at all. saves a lot of time.
