Removing track schmeg
Any idea how to safely remove the rubber and tar marks my car has aquired from it's recent days on the track?
I tried laquer thinner and acetone for removing the adhesive goo leftover from the shelf covering - bad idea. It made a mess, killed the gloss, and I had to re-buff the hood.

Thom,
Try Oil Flo Safety Solvent , diluted 50/50 to begin, stronger if need be. Its pH balanced and water soluble. Great stuff. You can purchase from Larry Reynolds at Car Care Specialties, and Larry is also a great resource who is pretty generous with his time and expertise should you have other questions. Good luck, Tim |

WD40 is a good goo remover for small jobs.

I use Meguiar's paint cleaner and polish. Gets rid of all the rubber off of the racecar.

Thom,
This won't help you now, but for your next event try applying low-tack painting tape to the areas of the car most effected previously. I've been using it for a whiloe and it works well. Just check out your local Home Depot in the paint isle. The stuff I use is made by 3M and is made for applying to wallpaper when painting a room. (BTW, it is much cheaper than "Racer Tape" and removes alot easier.) Good luck. Noel |

Thom - what kind of shelf paper did you use?
I just did a weekend at Road Atlanta with temps into the 90s and track temp over 125. Protected hood, bumper and mirrors with clear (satin finish) shelf paper. Peeled it off at the track Sunday and only had 2 tiny spots where the adhesive stuck to the car - rubbed it off with my fingers. The best stuff I've found for adhesive removal is the citrus cleaners with wax to follow.

Bug and tar remover works well. Simple green also does work fairly well...
I've found that grit in the rubber can make it more permanent, in which case some cleaner wax helps...
