Try Midwest Motorsport at 104 W. Irving Park Road, Bensenville, IL near Ohare. They specialize in air-cooled engines and there is also one by downtown Chicago its Wizard Werks. For paint, I just went to a non-Porsche specialist to paint my front valance and H4 rings at Skokie.

I used to live in Skokie. It's MPH Motorsport look for Totie or Redgie at 3601 Jarvis Ave Skokie, IL 60076. It's beside the emission testing center. They are not into Porsches but basic painting of front valance I guess it not a biggie.

A quick story, if i might.
I was driving to LA CA from CT in 1993. It was Friday afternoon, and in rush hour traffic just east of Chicago, my 1973E started running horrendously. Basically, it would run full throttle, or pretty much not at all.
I limped it into a rest area.
I got out a Porsche Panorama (the PCA mag), and found the name of the local club president, and called him. He suggested a towing company, and that the car go to Midwest Europsorts.
I was due in Pasadena for a college class Monday afternoon at 5.
Car got dropped at Midwest fri evening, and first thing Sat AM, they were under the engine cover and the diagnosis was the MFI pump had jammed. With a cordless phone in hand, talking to one of two mechanical injection gurus in the country, (at the time, one was in nearly Rock Island IL. Gus was another, and I think there was a possible third in CA as well ) amechanic spent some quality time jammed in the engine compartment fixing the MFI pump.
By 2 PM, it was repaired, and I was back on the road!
They were awesome, promising their best effort and exceeding beyond hopes.

I have never forgotten them.
PLEASE, if you decide to use them, seek out the owner and relate my story, and my continued thanks!

Second what Kevin's said. For paint work, O'Hare is where you want to go.

North Shore Auto Rebuilders, on Broadway in Chicago. Bernie and Wally Neumayer are the owners, both are Porsche owners and enthusiasts.

For paint work in the NW suburbs check out the ultimate paint shop in lake bluff. The person to talk to is Joe, he's the owner.

If you're looking for mechanical work you should check out perfect power in buffalo grove.
The owner Sol fantastic.
