Driving to work...
Rear ended (heavily) at the lights by a Honda Civic... Pushed into another car... Before After The irony is that I don't usually drive that car to work. I normally drive my company car. I feel terrible. My legs were all wobbly when I got out of the car and I had a very mild case of shaky legs. My briefcase hit the windsheild so hard I thought it would go through it! It still runs and drives, but it feels odd and the engine note is very strange. Could be a blown muffler (crushed muffler) or it could be something more sinister. Last time I was rear ended in this car (lightly) the 915 blew within the next 60 miles. Coincidence?? Any advice on the trans?

That blows.
I am thinking happy thoughts for for you that those bumper shocks did their job. Think how pissed you would be if you owned an early car without impact bumpers. Tom |

I'm really sorry to see that happen to your beautiful 911. Good luck with the insurance companies etc. One blessing is the paint job on the body didn't seem to get hurt.

What a nightmare! Is your left door & fender OK? Looks like the gap between fender and door is tight. And those bumpers are only rated for 5MPH impacts - beyond that, they're transmitting forces, not absorbing them! -- Curt

Oh my goodness....I'm sorry, Adam.
The same as your rear end damage happened to my old 2.7 - I was rear ended - and it damaged my muffler too. Cost like US $3,000 to fix, all in, but the local Porsche approved repairer did it perfectly. I would only get it repaired by the OPC specialist nearest you and get it tested for any chassis distortion etc. It's going to be very expensive - I wouldn't usually advocate insurance deception, but those were H1s on the front, weren't they? Good luck. In a month or so you shouldn't be able to tell it happened when it's fixed properly. If you've any medical concerns, see a Dr. Good luck |

Thanks, guys.
Firstly, I want to get the chassis looked at. If it's at all distorted, I will want that attended to. The headlights are the correct units for the Australian-spec cars. I'll make sure they're kept too, but the actual headlight assembly has been pushed back into the guards. It could need new guards too. I'm going outside to have a good look at the LHF guard/door panel gap. Curt's comment has pointed out something that I have probably missed by walking around the car in a daze. Thanks. I'm sure that the Official Repairer will pick up things like that also. Mercifully, the rear guards are ok. The taillights are both chipped/cracked. My real concern is the trans. I'd hate to have to foot the bill to get that repaired again. This whole affair has left me feeling sick to the stomach...

Ouch.
That's terrible. Get it completely gone over by both a Porsche-familiar body shop and also a Porsche-familiar mechanic. Lots of things can get messed up by a big impact, even if the skin is untouched.

Oh mate that makes me sick too. I'm really sorry to see and hear about your situation. Hope you have comprehensive insurance to cover all the damage and that the negotiations go well.
We're all going to be turning over at night thinking about you and your car. Cheers Mark

Glad to hear your'e OK, Adam. Sorry to hear about your car - this is never fun. Looks like the bumpers did their job for the most part. You will want to have the body shop look at the rear cross members and transmission mounts in regards to your transmission concerns. When you are estimating, make sure that you get the repair facility you want. If the chassis is distorted, it will probably be a write-off, in which case you may want to consider buying it back from the insurance company and making the car into what you want it to be (stock, custom, or lightweight race car, etc.). Anyway, if you're OK, everything else can be fixed ....

Ouch!!! Sorry, about your car Adam. Check references for good body shops. They will be able to repair your car to look as if it were never hit.
Hard to see from the photo, but your rear bumper may have saved you from replacing one of the most difficult Porsche parts to find...the rear reflector. Good luck.

Man that is terrible. There been two time that I've had to take off into another lane because some Jack*ss doesn't know how to stop in the rain.
Save every single receipt, including the cab fare, forthe penny the insurance doesn't cover. That includes frame checking etc... Let'em have it for all our sakes! |

Oh no. That explains why you replied "if my car get's fixed in time" to the other post. Damn sorry to see your car all smacked up and as others have said hope all goes well with your insurance company and repairer.
If you don't get it done in time I'm sure someone will take you along as a passenger/human camera mount on the drive day! Cheers, Victor '89 3.2 |

that really does bite !!! Hope your body faired better than the 911's. I guess that is one advantage to having my car in storage since last October; haven't had even a close call in eight months!! Later, Max
