Introduction/ Question

Hi, Just wanted to introduce myself and my car (hope it works). I have an 87 Carrera, no mods other than the wheels and stereo. Have had a great time working on it so far and have learned a lot from this site, thanks for all the insight.
Now I'am looking for more insight. Once the car warms up the shifter no longer returns to inbetween 3rd & 4th when not in gear (maybe a shifter bushing is sticking).
Also when lights are on, and turn signal turns off the brights turn on. P.O. said he replaced the turn signal stalk.
Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Welcome to the board, Jeff!

It sounds like the P.O. didn't get the stalk adjusted quite right, or perhaps bent some of the contacts in the process of insalling it! I suggest removing the plastic covers and taking a look ...

There was a recent article in Excellence about shifting improvements ... and a G50 car was featured in the pics.

Thanks Warren. I plan to take turn signal stalk off this weekend. I will let you know what I find. In what way can you adjust the stalk?

I found the gear shift article in April 2002 Excellence if anyone else is interested.

Welcome to the board, Jeff. Your P-Car is my favorite color, guards red (also known as "arrest me" red). Also, who's the cute little one in the picture?

Jeff,
My 87 has the same issue with the high beams. If you pull back slightly on the turn signal, do the brights go off? If so, it a problem with the switch. I looked at it once and couldn't see a way to adjust. If it can be adjusted, I'd like to know as well. I was going to replace it one of these days. My temporary fix is a couple of folded business cards stuck in behind the lever. Works great and it a lot cheaper.

Bill,

Thanks for the welcome. No arrests yet, but it does attract attention. The little girl is my oldest. She was 2 1/2 then and I have added another one (just as cute) since then. My oldest loves my car and can pick out other Porsches. She also loves when I take her in the cul-de-sac and go in circles (she laughs the whole time saying "go faster").

Your car looks great. I really like those polished Fuchs.

Don,

My brights do turn off if I pull back slightly, but it is very touchy. Sometimes when I hit a bump that will also turn my brights on. I plan on looking at it this weekend and will let you know what I find, If I don't have time I will use your business card approach (as long as you haven't patent it yet great idea!)

Welcome Jeff.

It's nice to be able to share the Porsche experience with your family. My 3 year old son loves to go for rides and say "big air daddy" as the air moves through the cabin with the windows down and sunroof open.

Hey Jeff, welcome 'home',

Glad to have you here. You should feel good that Warren gave you the first nod. He's brings a LOT to the board.

I live in the east valley but there are several of us Pelicanites that 'nest' throughout the metro area. Hope you can make our next outing.

Warren, I lived in Big Spring for 3.5 yrs (VA). I always liked San Angelo more though.

Welcome aboard, Jeff. Sharp looking car you have. Enjoy it!

Sounds like your G50 gearbox wants to be a 915. They don't return to the 3-4 gate either.
