911 2.2 motor serial number identification

Hi,

First let me give all of you congratulations for this wonderful site and chat. I could learn a lot from you.

I'm just looking to a 911 2.2s and thinking to buy it. The problem is that i've seen so much things that I should take in consideration before buy any of these cars. One of the things is the matching numbers and if the motor is a real 911 2.2s as i've been told or not.

I had the opportunity to get some numbers that i will share with you:

chassi - *9110110958*
motor - *6101356* and 911/03
carburetors - Weber 40IDT3C and bellow has 622
carter - 901.105.111.0R
fan - 901 106 101 5R

Can someone help me and confirm if this fits into a 911 2.2s 1970 model?

Another strange thing is that the car has the body parts from the '80 models, like bumpers, fenders, hood, etc. I've been told that this upgrade was something that was quite normal to do in those years. Is this correct?

Both the vin and engine number are for a 1970 911T, not an S

6 - 6 cyl engine

0 = 1970
1356 = consecutive build number

Body mods? Different strokes for different folks, but mods like you describe generally reduce the value of a '73 or earlier "long-hood" car. Also, mods like this were often done following an accident, not out of choice.

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Yes, you will find much that is useful here.

To answer your questions:

Your car's VIN decodes as follows: 9110110958
911=model 911
0=1970 model year
1=T
1=targa
0958=your car is the 958th produced for that year

Your engine: 6101356
6=six cylinder
1=T engine
0=1970 year
1336=yours is the 1,336th engine built

911/03=engine type is a Euro T

All together, you have a 1970 911T targa with a 1970 911T Euro engine, 2.2L. The engine and VIN are "matching" in that they are within the ranges but you cannot tell if that particular engine was installed in that particular car without a COA from Porsche.

edit: well, Peter posted while I was typing so this is all repetitive. I concur with the body mods comment and the devaluing it does to the car. Remember, this car is not an S so a huge chunk of it's potential value to restore to correctness is lost.

It is clear for me that the information i was getting was wrong and definitly this is not an 2.2S. This means the value of it is completly different and taking into account the money i will spend to bring it back to the original, i will for sure think about it....but it will depend on the money the seller is willing to accept!
What are the main points/areas i should look carefully in order to exclude the idea the car was coming from an accident?

Lot's to know to look for accident damage. Inner wheel house contours, gas tank placement in chassis, seams (all), rear frame rails, rear engine mount spear, front wall of trunk compartment. Really too much to explain in a format like this; a professional PPI is your best bet.
