Just picked up all of the parts from Pelican to fix my ailing sunroof on my '88 930 slant-cab but have run into a little snag.
The roof is stuck in the closed position and I have been unsuccessful with the putty knife approach as mentioned by someone at releasing the sunroof headliner. I recall that another poster mentioning that he was able to release the roof and slide it open manually by activating the latches that's buried somewhere near the rear edge of the roof. I'd like to try this but could not locate the latches within the headliner. Can someone point them out to me on this schematic? I'm assuming that the '88 930 have the same mechanism? Thanks, Wade '88 Slant-cab [This message has been edited by GoodMojo (edited 08-22-2001).] |

Mine too, was stuck in the full closed position. Get your putty knife into the front edge and pry the liner out of the sunroof, then you can access the cable ends and brackets that hold the top in. I had a frozen cable, so mine wouldn't move back either. Good luck.

the picture doesn't show them, but they're just an overcenter lever on the front of each cable just above #8 bracket. after the headliner is slid back, use a screwdriver to pop the lower part of the lever to the rear. that's after you drop the drive unit away from the cables under the zipper.

If, as it appears from your opening post, the sunroof is locked in a closed position such that you cannot pull down the headliner, you might try to eliminate the resistance on the cables so that the you can slide the roof back. That resistance is caused by the gearing in the sunroof motor which meshes with the cables under the zipper lined opening in the rear of the headliner.
Open the zipper, and unscrew the motor/drive assembly so that they disengage from the two cables. Once the cables are disengaged at the motor/gear assembly, they should slide freely in their tracks with little resistance. At that point, you should be able to slide the sunroof rearward with simple hand pressure on the top/outside of the sunroof. This should provide you with sufficient room to use your putty knife to separate the sunroof headliner from the leading edge of the sunroof. |

the cables won't slide until you pop back the overcenter levers. the front of the headliner can be popped down with the roof all the way closed by using a putty knife or a 90° hook tool to get under the front edge and pull down. do a search on sunroofs for past posting info.
