new elephant racing suspension, questions about setting it up
Hello everyone,
a few weeks ago I ordered a complete suspension package from elephant racing, the time has come to finally install the new parts. before doing this I had a few questions related to setting up the torsion bars. for the fronts I am running 22's and the rears 29's. the car weighs (without me) 2400, add 200lbs for myself. I would like my car to ride a bit lower than euro height.... Front, what angle do I need to place the torsion bars at? with that, can anyone give me a how to on this? how do I install the end caps/adjusters- the middle? towards the bottom? top? Rear, what angle would be best for the rears? and with the adj spring plates should I leave them in the middle at install time or is there a better position? also here is a pic for reference ![]() thanks everyone |

Hey Saxen, good to see you're starting on your build.
So for the fronts, you'll adjust the end caps to set your "range" roughly. Because I had the rubber bushings, I had to "index" them when setting, but you've got PB bushings up front, so you'll assemble it all so that the strut is attached to the control/A arms to hold them in place. What I'd do next is assemble the front end with the wheels hanging, then put wood blocks under the tires and lower the front so that the wheels are four or so inches from the fender, and put the jack stands back under the car. Then, I'd put the torsion bars in and slide the end caps on so that they're in the middle of the range, and equal left to right. Install the adjustment bolts. You're going to eventually put the car back on its tires, and measure the ride height to see if she sits where you want, within the adjustable range. You may need to raise the front, and adjust the end cap if you find that you're out of your range before getting to the height you want. For the rears, if you have the initial springplate angle from your previous setup, you'll want to reattach the trailing arm, shocks and springplate (with the old toe/camber settings) and using a floor jack, bring the springplate angle back to your previous hanging angle, and insert your T bars with the spring plates in the middle. This is essentially what I did, and it worked out pretty well for me, although I had to reindex my right rear to get in into the range I wanted.

saxen this is a great thread about installing and setting up a complete ERP suspension . i did this project last winter on a 88 carerra, it was hugely helpful. email trog if you need help great guy.

I followed that buiild and craigs as well, the major differance was the front strut housings, both threads had them raised 30mm from elephant, im still running stock height on mine. craig, my rear was lifted about 2 inches to high before (after taking 3-400 lbs off the car. just for a startign point do you remember what degree you set your rears? |

My previous angle was around 17 degrees. It measured 20, but the car was around 3 degrees down angled on the stands. I'm at 15 degrees now, and a little lower then before the suspension upgrade, so somewhere between 15 and 17 degrees on your springplates should be "in range".
