Sorry guys, had to post these here.

Sorry guys I tried to send these to a fellow pelican "guards red 911" Who was interested in seeing how I did my airbox with cam-locks but in the PM screen it has to be linked somewhere if you want to send photos, so I will put them here and for anyone else that's interested in doing theirs the same way, here is how I did mine.

Thanks guys, for the nice comments. It's still in prototype status but I need to get this car on the road, so I will make it pretty later. Right now, it just needs to be functional.

Thanks Josh, The fasteners I used are actually Dzus fasteners obtained from an Ebay seller called Kurveygirl.com. I know, my mind went somewhere else too... anyway you'll want to get the receptacles and fasteners as a kit and they are shown that way on their site. Good luck guys!

Anytime you feel like posting something cool like that, please don't hesitate. Of course now we need details.

I question if going from continuous straps to concentrated point loads on the lips will over time fatigue the plastic.

It is an elegant and simple solution, just wondering if the clips should not be strips going the full depth of the airbox, thereby distributing the compression loads over a larger area.

Maybe more holes and rivets would be worse than what you currently have, I'm not sure.

George, I have no idea if the side would break or not, but I was going to add that the normal clips attach to that lip and it's always the clip itself that breaks of and not the lip.

I was thinking after you posted this how brittle some of my old airboxes are. The one I replaced recently had the right side breather/filter bung cracked off just due to age.

I guess only time will tell. Heck, even the factory engineers miss stuff resulting in vehicle recalls. If it helps, I will add that the lip part the airbox is actually sandwiched between two pieces of sheet metal and the lip is pretty pliable and should last a long time. If not, there's always the plastic weld kit. Actually in this instance, it's more of a tension (pulling) load.

Dzus fasteners are some good stuff. They actually use them on race cars to hold on removable body panels. Bisimoto is using them on his RWB-style 911 to hold on the rear bumper for easy removal to reach his turbos. I have some Dzus fasteners (a flush style though) on the carbon fiber hood on my Boxster. They have worked very well for me for the last five years! I did not get mine on eBay, I got them at an on-line race shop. Just throwing out another source - check any of your on-line auto racing supply shops.

I did not know this, reconsidering my doubts now.

I agree, was thinking about this right after I posted it. The clips are compressed together, causing tension in the adjacent connections and areas.

Like someone said, time will tell.

I like the effort to innovate even though it's a bit more bling than I normally like.

That is a good thing to keep in mind when critiquing the design.
