The dream came true!
In my garage now sits my very own Porsche 911sc. Found a 1980 listed on pelican after a year or so of research and tiresome nights. The gentlemen I purchased it from was a class act and honest through the whole process. I went to South Carolina had a PPI done, at which almost everything was to my level of satisfaction. Me and my Father flew up the night before, as I was waiting on my fathers arrival (different flight) I called the PO up for a hotel recommendation at which point he informed me he also was boarding a flight, and that the car was in the covered parking lot if I wanted to go take an early look. So I darted over to the garage area and began the search for the Black SC that I was certain was destined to be mine the next day. Like I said the car checked out wonderfully and off we started to Texas on what was truly one of the best weekends of my life, riding side by side with my father 1150 miles. The 911 Cruised up to my driveway without even a single hitch where my wife and children waited anxiosly for my arrival. I had originally been turned on by several RSR and the like projects thinking this was what I would want to do in the future. After spending some time with the car I love it just how it is. Ive enjoyed driving it for a few days and have started a few of the minor projects needed to bring the car to a very nice example. Everywhere I go people enjoy and want to share about the car. I have my first Cars and Coffee meet with the car this Saturday. Thanks alot for all the wisdom that floats around this place and I hope to get to know some of you in the future. Not gonna drive the car for the next day or 2 and get some fresh oil in the engine and a few other minor things addressed. Any tips or ideas on things maybe I should start to stock up on or any rookie things to watch for in the early stages of 911 ownership would be appreciative. Planning to make an order for some things from pelican soon and would love some opinions from you all. Jack Pad Shifter Bushings maybe even a short throw along with a few other things are on the list. Thanks again Blake-----sorry for the runons i'm not much of a story teller. Will try and post pics as soon as I can figure it out.

Great story, Blake. Congrats on the new car and welcome to the family!
One suggestion I have for the future - please use paragraphs for stories like this... It makes things much easier to read ![]() Good luck! |

Great story. Welcome to the madness.
I still look at my 911 in the garage and marvel that I own it.

I see a paragraph. Therefore, he is using paragraphs. I mean, like, I see one solar system sized paragraph, so it's all good. Always the guys from Hoboken who stir up trouble. ![]() Blake - Good for you. How did you feel when you snuck out to see the car in the parking deck and saw it the first time? Was it a nice as the pics? When I saw mine for the first time, I was delirious. I remember that sensation to this day and it's close to 20 years now.

Blake, you have violated a sacred Pelican law in only three posts. Pelican law, Section 1, Paragraph three specifies..."All new Porsche purchases must be photographed and then posted to the 911 Forum for all to enjoy".
![]() Good job on the new car. It will give you years of enjoyment.

Awesomeness!
![]() Just keep in mind that your shopping list might change dramatically at any moment... Read-up on short throws, I was convinced I needed one at first and after learning to enjoy the 915, I wouldn't get one unless it was a dedicated track car. S

Working on the photos i need to resize them as they are all over 2.0mbs.
T77911S- We took the car to Stan Turner for the PPI, I brought my father along for the experience first and secondly he was there to really check the car over as he is the one who has passed this crazy obsession on to me and knows more about things then I prly ever will. Stan turned out to be a great guy, and really helped us along with all the things we were concerned with. Bob- When he told me I could go on over and look at the car, thats when things really took a turn from me being super concerned about the fact that I had flown from DFW to SC to look at a 30plus year old car, from someone I didnt even know, to me feeling very secure about the whole situation. The car was even better then I had expected and things really just went up from there. I felt like okay this guy isnt trying to hide anything. Im sure if someone were watching me they saw a few hops and skips along the way. Im not a big shooting star kind of guy but later that night I saw one and felt really good about the whole deal. On the oil change, are the drain plug seals to be replaced upon every oil change or is it only upon inspection if need be? wanted to go ahead and get the oil changed without waiting for a shipment to arrive, however I may have to wait for the Porsche Filter anyway if I cannot find one close by. Thanks for the support everyone. I have photos but like I said i need to figure a way to make them smaller in size, and computers are starting to pass me by so bare with me while i research. |

Also on the Short Shifter. I love the 915 gearbox and really have no complaints but just thought that I might like it even more with a short shift kit. Ive heard both good and bad, however my reasoning isnt because I dislike what I have now just thought I might like it more with the short shift. Need to replace shifter bushing as that is one of the only things with the car that I know of thats worn.

Replace the drain plug washers with every oil change, always use the correct filter (both of which you can buy in the DFW area from a dealer or one of the many good independent shops there, if you don't want to wait) and use a good oil. Since you are in Texas, I would suggest Swepco.
I've driven 911s with the 915 gearbox for over 30 years. I've owned both new and used 911s of that era, used every short shifter made (both aftermarket and factory, as well as the factory semi-short shifter) and my opinion at this point is this; I hate short shifters. If you feel the need, rebuild and adjust the shifter you have, replace the coupling and other bushings if needed, consider changing the motor mounts, etc. Pelican will resize your photos for you... YMMV, etc.... JR |

I am not a shooting star guy either. Let's just say that the when I first saw my 911 it was comparable to seeing for the first time my ex's sweater puppies unleashed. Now that was a good weekend. However, pretty damned expensive overall.
