Have you ever been working on something electrical, and heard a pop or sizzle? I tried installing the tach from an '84 Carrera in my '78SC, and wasn't 100% sure of the connections. With the help of several folks, I narrowed down the connections and gave it a whirl.
When I reconnected the battery, I heard what sounded like that pop/sizzle sound when you fry wiring. I literally almost jumped out of my shoes!! Turns out it was my CD player ejecting the CD! ![]()

I pulled the battery cable first, and then bolted to the cabin and looked/smelled for burnt wiring. It was then I noticed the CD ejected from the CD player.
Events like this can really wreck a buzz.......... ![]()

Just remember its not the volts that will stop your heart its the amps. Last pop I heard was on a 1200amp switchboard about 2 months ago. Had to check my shorts after that one.
