wooden floorboards - why?

my original floorboards are in amazing shape, but only through never getting much exposure to weather I am sure. Anyone ever hear of why Porsche would choose to use wood? Can't argue they didn't do the job for 26 years..

The wood used is light. I am surprised that your clutch pedal stop is still there. They usually find their way out.

the answer is in your question grasshopper. floodBOARDS
lightness is the answer, plus, they won't rust
besides, floorboards sound so much better than floormetals, or floorplastics

Same question could be asked of why horsehair was used as a layer between the seat padding in the old longhood "bench" seats. Availability of material and cost. So when did tupperware hit the market? My boards are original although they have been painted several times and patched here and there, they provide that wonderful light flexibility.

Wood is an amazing structural material, the first airplane was made of wood and fabric, planes are still made from wood. Not many modern automobiles use wood for anything except trim. Dr P. knew what he was doing, applied material science.

hmmm....nah. I'm thinking by1998 there had to be one or two other materials available... Cost a lot more to steam and shape plywood than pop plastic out of a mold...Somebody knows and it's gonna have something to do with PGEPD (Porsche German Engineering Personality Disorder!).

Why fix what ain't broke. If Porsche followed all the other mass production makers, the 911 would have been manufactured for 4 seasons. I just saw a Hundai that looked like a Mercedes or did the Mercedes look like a Hundai? Even BMWs look like Toyotas.

So we can fight termites and carpenter ants as well as things that live in our tailpipes and on our cylinder heads.

EDIT: A good rubber block for the clutch pedal stop is a bicycle brake pad. Even better is to get the pad in it's holder, with threaded boss, and use that in place of the simple interference fit metal holder Porsche provides. Done correctly, you can move the pad via the threaded boss and also get a better angle on the clutch pedal arm.

My guesses...

-Thermal properties. Wood does not suck the heat out of your feet making it more comfy for you and your passenger
-Light weight for how it is being loaded up by your feet AND the need to create a flat surface for the carpet to rest against
-Sound damping compared to steel

OK, the wood floorboards are cool. But why did Porsche install a Heater/vent/ AC unit that still makes me scratch my head?

Don't remind me...A horse actually chewed up the front seat of my 77 ROW! Ruined the seat. Prolly smelled himself...
