Intermittant starting

I have a 3.2 conversion in a 1977 Targa. The car has run perfectly for years and now starting intermittently. I swapped out the DME twice, checked for fuel smell at the tail pipe. When it turns over it runs perfectly. Any Ideas?

that is common failure mode for a starter. describe what happens when it doesn't start.

DME relay

Most likely the starter. When it does not start it is the result of heat sink or the starter that is sitting on a bad patch of the windings.

I believe you will be able to push start the car if it does not start on the starter. If that is the case that should rule out the DME and point you to the starter.

I have a new starter, and it turns over nicely, it just doesn't fire all the time. If it starts, it fires quickly and run perfectly. I have a new ignition switch as well.

Not the starter in that case.

Perhaps the fuel pump is intermittent? Try swapping fuel pump relays. Also try pulling an injector and checking for consistent spray.
