Any good technical books/articles that discuss the various systems with a 3.2?

There are many threads in this forum that discuss the various parts and their functions with the Motronic. It is a very simple system. It has 2 flywheel sensors that let the Chip know engine speed and TDC (reference sensor), AFM sends information on air intake and temperature, cylinder head temp sensor so engine temperature is known, microswitch and full throttle switch so Chip can adjust mixture at different throttle positions. O2 sensor to adjust mixture at idle, ICV to adjust idle speed.
You can search the different terms and find tremendous amounts of information, or ask a specific question and someone will eventualy answer it.

Wayne's book is a must have- 101 projects for your 911, and is worth 4X the price.

While not just focused on the 3.2, it provides a great step by step on all the routine maintenance, and most if not all of the upgrades we talk about on this board

I've got the 101 book, but haven't purchased a maintenance manual. Is there a preference between Bently and whatever that cheaper one was called?

Adrien Streathers essential companion books are pretty decent. Has one specific to the 3.2 Carrera's.

Bosch used to put out small yellow booklets - 8.5x11" but only ~~ 1/4" thick that discussed the theory of operation on various systems - battery/starter was one; CIS was another. Dunno where to find them or if Bosch did one for EFI.

You might troll thru the threads and pick out tidbits to post here; then ask follow up questions.

AFAIK, the 3.2L stock EFI system has a small brain (ECU) which gets various inputs (on most 1980's cars it does NOT do everything - see ISV comment above) and uses the inputs (mostly just 2 of them) in a lookup table ("engine map") to decide what amount of fuel to inject, when; and to control spark advance.

Dunno if it has a knock sensor, but I think not.

No OBD on these.

That pretty much exhausts my own knowledge of these new-fangled EFI systems.

I'm only aware of his 964 and 993 books. Could you provide specifics of the one you're talking about?

I have not purchase them, however thinking about add to my library.
I have the Bently & Wayne's book both are very good.

"Porsche 911 Story" by Paul Frere is a book that goes into technical detail of the development history with extensive information on the 3.2. It makes a great companion for your shop manuals as it goes into the how and why these systems were incorporated onto the 911, and not just the nuts and bolts replacement of parts.

Looks like I misspoke. The 3.2 Carrera book by Streather is a buyer's guide, not an essential companion book like the SC one I have.

A Carrera works very similar to other 911s. However, the engine might be the most asked-about item.

The DME system (Pulsed Injection) is explained in "Bosch Fuel Injection & Engine Management" by Charles Probst (Robert Bentley Publishing).

+1 on the Probst book. Great reference and interesting reading in the "theory" section explaining the engineering behind both CIS and Pulsed injection.
