1985 seat height
I have done a reasonable amount of research through these boards but I am unable to find rhyme or reason why the 85 seat sits higher.
I would like to lower mine by the 20mm difference between 85 and later year cars. I am reasonably tall and want to put back the original steering wheel (currently have a smaller racing wheel) but fear my knees will knock when driving. ![]() How is this achieved? Is it possible? Are there extra spacers or something? Please advise. Many thanks Ed. |

Porsche redesigned the seats for 1985 and they are taller than those that came before 1985. They lowered the seat rails in 1986, when they realized that they didn't do any favors for the tall guys in 1985.
I suppose you could fit a set of 1984 (or earlier) seats in the car. JR |

The rails are welded to the chassis. Changing that is not simple.

What condition are your seats in? Some have had their seats reupholstered and take about 1 - 1 1/2 inches out of the bottom cushion foam.

Removing seat foam is an approved method for lowering butt ride height. Search it and you'll find guys who did this. - Matt

Re-upholstering my seats is on the list. Perhaps this is the easiest way to go.
