1980 911 removal of centre cabin temp control & box
I have just bought a 1980 911 SC Targa.
Both the rear and front blower motors were u/s. I have repaired the rear hot air blower and am waiting for the front cool air motor & fan from Pelican. In the mean time I need to remove the plastic centre console with the temp. control knob surrounding the handbrake to check on the cable link from the little servo motor which appears to be working to the cables going to the 2 rear hot air flapper box's. The flapper box's work and the round flat sheet metal vane doors are free and can rotate, Ive lubricated the cables and Ive put a scope up the tunnel from the rear seat tunnel up to the little lever that is operated by the servo motor. I can see the servo connecting lever move from within the cabin inside the plastic cover and also see movement of the lever up in the tunnel/mezanine floor space, but the cables are not moving down to the flapper box's. I think that something has come adrift at this connection point, but looks impossible to get to. I am hoping someone can provide a detailed description on how to remove the plastic housing and other bits to get down to the lever to cable connection area. Help is required asap. thanks Eric |

I generally remove the access cover on the right side of the box, leaving the box in place. It's easier to do with the right seat removed. That sounds like a big deal but it takes about 4 minutes to get it out.

If anyone's still reading this thread... any tips on getting the central heat console out of an 87 Carrera with manual heat? I can see that there are wires soldered to the 3 position knob so I'm guessing that there must be a way to disconnect the knob from the console? Or maybe there's a snap fitting on those wires that is burried under the carpet hidden from sight? Right no I can't figure out how to de-wire this puppy.
There is a screw in the center of the 3 position knob but it doesn't seem to want to back out. Don't want to damage anything here. ![]()
