US vs Euro Sparks

I have an 911S 1976 US car. I live in Europe.
Does a US car require other spark plugs than Europe models? I suspect my garage to either have put in wrong sparks or to not have adjusted the spark opening properly.

Porsche 911 & Carrera Ignition Tune-Up - Page 1

I imagine you have these in Europe. Either the Bosch or NGK for your year.

Are these different from the euro car?

I have an 83SC RoW which does use a different plug (heat range) then the one for the same car built for the US market. I suspect that if you check you will find out the same thing for your car.

No, you can't assume that. Apples and oranges... There's no difference in that year, according to the Porsche spec. books. There was a greater difference in the engines in 1983 than there was in 1976.

I wasn't assuming anything, just stated that he might want to confirm that they are not different. Are you saying they are the same?

It would be good for us to know what plugs the shop put in your car so a comparison could be made.

WR5DC+ is what Pelican recommends. I have used these and the WR5DC. Both good plugs, copper electrode.

The original spec called for Bosch W 225 T 30 or Beru 225/14/3, both gapped at .7mm.

In my owners manual the gap is set as 5mm

That's interesting. I have a copy of a '76 owner's manual that agrees with the spec book and gives the gap as .7mm.

What plugs are listed in your copy of the owner's manual?

Is your owners manual a ROW version or a US version?
If your car is a US model, use the US specs and part numbers that are given here at Pelican.

The interesting thing is that the Porsche spec books for that year make no distinction between the US and ROW versions of the 2.7 liter engines, when it comes to the plug types.

I'd say if the original poster still has his owner's manual, as seems to be the case, it would be a simple thing to read the part about which plugs to use. Whether those original plugs are still available, or can be cross-referenced to something available now, is another question.

I think the original supercession for the Bosch plug was the W5D, which may still be available. Not sure if I'd use the later version with the resistor. I haven't looked for the Beru plug.

Just checked again in the manual, and it says 0.55mm gap for the 911s and 0.7 for the 912

Sounds like they need to check the CO level.

Meaning that it gets to much air? How does one adjust this?

No. If it is making the spark plugs black, it is either getting too much fuel, or burning some oil. You have to have a CO meter to measure the exhaust gas and you adjust the fuel mixture with a 3mm hex wrench inserted through a hole in the top of the airflow meter/fuel distributor assembly. Any good shop that knows 911 engines will know what to do.

Did you ever figure out which spark plugs were in your engine and which spark plugs were listed in your owner's manual?
