Dome light still not working
Hi Pelicans.
I just installed a brand new dome light unit (the original was broken) with new bulb and... still no light, in any of the 3 way switch position. My P is a 1985 Targa, dead stock. Any idea ??

Check the door switch to see if it is making ground. It will unscrew from the door frame. Be careful to not let the wire pull out of the back of the switch. Once you have access to the wire, try grounding it directly to the door frame. If that doesn't work, check the fuses. I hope this helps!

those rubber nipples tear so easily!
I had the same problem. Pulled 'em out, pull it open, sand the contact a little, put it back together. Good as new. Except for the nipple!

Dome light operation.......
Nico,
The dome or courtesy lights work three ways. a). Door switch........uses ground to turn the courtesy lights. b). Manual switch......supply power to light bulb sockets. c). Off position Test the dome light terminal/s for presence of: a). Ground contact b). Power (12 volts) You need these two things at the same time for the light/s to work. Tony |

power...?
Hi ...I just got mine working ('86 Cab) ...Just in addition to the other suggestions:
Have out checked to see if you have power at the light (Black wire) with a volt meter? If you have, you may have put the wires back incorrectly...The solid brown is your ground and the brown with a white stripe is for your door switch...If wired incorrectly it will not work properly. In my case the pins in a connector were dirty which was only giving me 10 Volts. Once they were cleaned-> steel wool or? - all was well. It's a 2 wire harness coming out of the car that has 1 black and a brown with a white stripe. With your trunk open and looking down from the outside left fender - you will see it among a couple of other harnesses around the left trunk strut. Here is a photo of the connector...I hope one or more of the different posted suggestions works for you. Quote:
