3.0 needs rebuild, found a good price on a 2.7 ..????
I have a 1982 911 sc and the 3.0 needs a rebuild, while looking around I found a 2.7 off a 77, for around $2000k shipped, good compression. All it needs is the CIS system and alternator, I was thinking of replacing it with the 3.0 for the time being while I rebuild it, while changing the obvious on the 2.7 prior to putting it in. What you guys think? good of bad idea? thought it was too good a price to pass up as a temporary option.

I wouldn't do it. In the time you'd spend swapping motors and fixing all of the issues to make the 2.7 run correctly, you could have the 3.0 rebuilt, if a competent shop was doing the rebuild. You's also be out some money that could be better spent.

the 2.7 is a POS someone knows that already , stripped off the CIS and alternator ( the only working bits ) and left you the crapped out case...

I'm thinking the price is to high for what is missing unless he has paperwork on case work etc. When and if I ever sell my extra 2.7 it will be running on a stand or in a car for those wanting to see that it is not a POS.
Too many unknowns make it a possibility that you'll be doing two rebuilds.

Rubbish. You can't make this statement as a blanket dismissal of all 2.7s and be taken seriously. One that is 'fixed' is a fun engine with peaky power. Mine is in it's 40th year and is running strong - how is that a POS?

Mine is also in its 40th year and going off the large binder of receipts that came with it, only the valve guides have been replaced in the way of serious engine work.
