Wax???

Hey all,

I need to purchase some wax for my car. I am not too knowledgeable about the differences between the 50 different products on the shelf.

I am not looking for a 3 step process just something I can apply after washing it to give it a shine and some protection. I want something I can apply by hand that isn't too expensive that i can hopefully purchase at my local auto parts store.

Any suggestions appreciated

thanks in advance

You may want to try Rejex. It's is a polymer finished used on boats and airplanes as well. It will not put on the car show billions dollar shine, but it protects against UV, chemicals and makes cleaning easier. I found out about it through a friend in the detail business who used to show Vettes. It sells for about $20 per pint or so but is well worth it.

Are you looking for a polymer or a natural wax?

P21 past wax is a good product and you maybe able to find it at NAPA. Meguiers makes a mirror glaze line that is good but you can find it usually at the pep boys or advanced usually. I believe they make a polymer also.

For a polymer you can buy on the net I suggest Zaino. I've used it for years and been very happy with gloss and protection.

Optimum Car Wax is among the easiest to use. All you need to do is spray on, wipe off. I use it in conjunction with their No Rinse wash.

Hi...Your question is one that is similar to what sort of oil to use...You know doubt will get a plethora of thoughts on your question as there are many good products available.... I'll throw my opinion into the ring.

I like you only use/need a straight wax, and for the price and the quality of the product, I use Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba which goes on very easy and comes off the same. It water beads for months and you will get many applications out of one can. A similar if not the same is 3M Perfect-It Show Car Paste Wax. 3M bought out Meguiars a couple of years ago.

I see that Meguiars NXT ( next generation) liquid is popular but I prefer paste wax likely because I am from the 'before generation'...

Nu Finish liquid polish is actually something that may also suit your needs and budget. It also seems to be a popular 'polish'- It's inexpensive and many use it - It's a Polymer sealant

BTW your local Lordco Parts store have Mequiars. Maybe $15.00 - $20.00? - Nu Finish $10.00?

Side Bar: When I use a polisher I use 3M's Perfect Line - Have done for years with great results.

Lucas Slick Mist is about all I have been using the past 4 years. Really works great and easy to use. My car is always shiny. You can get it anywhere now. Used to be online order only. Get it at Pep boys, AutoZone or any good auto parts store. Or online.

I think about the easiest wax to apply and take off that delivers and excellent shine is NXt Wax 2.0 by Meguiars.

It will do what you're looking for.

Since No one answered your question about wax and polymers, I looked up a good link with a pretty detailed explanation. I learned something too so thank you for asking the question.

look here:

Carnauba vs. polymer wax

By the way, surface preparation by using a clay bar and doing any necessary paint correction with an appropriate polish will yield far better results than your choice of finishing wax or sealant.

The difference primarily is durability. Carnauba wax is the best natural wax but has a melting point and no UV protection generally. Waxes come with several carnauba wax % content so most of them are mixed with other ingredients. It can be layered if you like to put coats on your paint. This has always been the appeal of carnauba to users because it has such perfect optical clarity coat after coat.

Polymers at one time could not be layered on paint for multiple coats. They had great protection but couldn't give you the deep wet looking shine wax could after a few coats.. Today's polymers can do that and offer the highest UV protection at very high melting points. They also offer much stronger bonding to clean paint and clean clear coat. They are also easier to use generally.

I use Liquid Glass on the 911. I have tried many products. Like you I have no interest in multi steps, one section at a time, don't let it dry, etc. Liquid Glass goes on and off super easy, you do the whole car at once and the results are amazing. Available at Autozone $25.
