CrossOver Pipe Flange Question
I am replacing my Cat with a M&K pre muffler on my 1980SC
The Flange on my Cat is rusted out and i am not sure if the crossover flange will hold up. Is the flange on the crossover pipe separate or an integral part of the pipe ? I am wondering if I need to buy a crossover pipe.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1365639528.jpg |
I just did this same project and my flanges looked as bad as yours
the flange for crossover pipe is part of the pipe it does not come off I had to cut all bolts off with dremel tool and hammer out remaining studs then I used the dremel to clean up flange face to make a good seal I doubt you would have to buy new crossover |
From the looks of it you should be ok. I had the same issues with my 84 Carrera and I dremeled off the rusted bolts and a couple taps with the hammer got them out. Then I had the whole exhaust bead blasted and I painted it with a little high temp silver paint. New gaskets all around and no worries!

At least some of the bolts and nuts have pretty much disintegrated. I am not looking forward to cutting out the remaining bolts. There does not seem to be a whole lot of room to get a Dremel up in there even with the flex extension. |
Don't be afraid to put a little muffler seal goop on it from the local parts store when re-assembling. I played hell with sealing mine with the copper gaskets that came from Fabspeed when I installed their pre-muffler. Believe I just put new OEM gaskets on with a little dope. No problems since that I can tell.

I did not use the flex extension
I have a lift so up went the car and off went the wheel and there is plenty of room Just take your time and have fun it's not that bad of a job |

Do you apply it right over the gasket on both sides ? What kind of hardware did you use ? Steel, stainless, copper nuts, anti sieze ? Thanks for the input. |
Exhaust Leak & Gurgling on deceleration.
Maybe this exhaust leak explains the gurgling & popping when I let up on the
gas. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1365658171.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1365658184.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1365658200.jpg |
